Accounting
Accounting or accountancy is the measurement, processing, and communication of financial and non financial information about economic entities such as businesses and corporations. Accounting, which has been called the “language of business”, measures the results of an organization’s economic activities and conveys this information to a variety of users, including investors, creditors, management, and regulators. Practitioners of accounting are known as accountants.
This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions. Individuals in these roles apply theoretically and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously and exercise judgment in completing routine and non-routine activities.
There is no direct link between this qualification and licensing, legislative and regulatory requirements. However, where required, a unit of competency will specify relevant licensing, legislative and regulatory requirements that impact on the unit.
Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service, must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the educational requirements for registration. Other conditions apply including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirement with the Board as this is reviewed regularly.

At this level, individuals are expected to apply theoretical and technical skills in a range of situations and to display initiative and judgment in planning activities. They have autonomy in performing complex operations and can be responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others within broad but generally well –defined parameters.
